Elizabeth Street, Sydney CBD (march route to Hyde Park)
About this activity
The ANZAC Day March is one of Sydney's most impressive annual spectacles — more than 10,000 current and former members of the Australian Defence Force marching in formation down Elizabeth Street to Hyde Park, accompanied by military bands and cheered on by a city full of grateful spectators.
On Saturday 25 April 2026, the March steps off at 9am. Families line the footpaths along Elizabeth Street from as early as 8am to secure a spot. Seeing veterans carry their medals, watching the precision and pride of serving members, and hearing the bands — it is a genuinely moving experience that brings history to life for children far better than any classroom ever could.
Families can look forward to:
- Over 10,000 marchers including veterans of multiple conflicts and current ADF members
- Military marching bands playing classic service tunes along the route
- A powerful, emotional atmosphere that connects children to history in a real way
- Free to watch from the footpath along Elizabeth Street — no tickets required
- March concludes at the ANZAC Memorial in Hyde Park South for a Commemoration Service at 12:30pm
- Easy access by train to Museum, Town Hall or Central stations
- Broadcast live on ABC TV and iView for those watching from home
