About this activity
580 acres of parkland, smack in the middle of Sydney's Eastern Suburbs, free to visit every day of the year. Centennial Parklands is the kind of place that becomes a family ritual — the spot you go every Sunday morning, every school holiday, every time you need open air and green space and room to breathe.
The park has something for genuinely every age and energy level. Babies nap in prams along the wide paths while toddlers chase ducks at the ponds. Primary-age kids tear around the playgrounds and beg to hire bikes or pedal cars. Older children explore on foot, spot birds, or bring a ball for a kick in the vast open meadows. And parents get to sit on the grass and do absolutely nothing for an hour, which is also excellent.
Families can look forward to:
- Multiple free playgrounds suited to different age groups — from toddler-safe to big-kid climbing structures
- Feed the ducks, geese and swans at the iconic duck and goose ponds
- Hire bikes, tandems and pedal cars for a leisurely ride around the park (small hire fee)
- Wide open lawns perfect for picnics, cricket, kicking a ball or flying a kite
- Birdwatching — over 130 species recorded in the park, including ibis, herons and parrots
- Café on-site for breakfast and lunch — or BYO and use one of the free BBQ areas
- Open from sunrise to sunset every day — free always, for everyone
