About this activity

There are very few places in Sydney where you can ride a roller coaster with the Sydney Harbour Bridge towering behind you and the Opera House gleaming in the distance. Luna Park on Milsons Point has been making that exact thing possible since 1935 — and nearly a century later, it remains one of the most joyful, photogenic family destinations in Australia.

Park entry is free — you only pay for rides — which makes it a surprisingly flexible outing. You can bring a picnic, sit on the grass with harbour views, and let the kids choose a handful of rides that suit their age and daring. For little ones there are dedicated junior rides; for braver kids and teens there are classic thrillers like the Rotor and the Wild Mouse roller coaster. The landmark Mr Moon face gate is one of the most photographed spots in Sydney, and the whole park carries an irresistible retro charm.

Families can look forward to:

  • Free park entry — pay only for the rides you choose, with unlimited ride passes also available
  • Classic thrill rides including roller coasters, the Rotor and the Hair Raiser for older kids
  • Junior rides and gentle options for toddlers and pre-schoolers — including cars, boats and carousels
  • Spectacular views of Sydney Harbour Bridge and Opera House from inside the park
  • Fairy floss, popcorn and classic carnival games throughout the grounds
  • Open school holidays, weekends and selected weekdays — check the website for current hours
  • Arrive by ferry from Circular Quay for a truly memorable harbour approach
