Australian National Maritime Museum – Free ANZAC Day Visit
Explore Australia's naval and maritime ANZAC history at the Australian National Maritime Museum on ANZAC Day — free access to the main galleries, ships and special ANZAC exhibitions at Darling Harbour.
2 Murray Street, Darling Harbour NSW 2000
About this activity
Right on the waterfront at Darling Harbour, the Australian National Maritime Museum tells the remarkable story of Australia's relationship with the sea — and on ANZAC Day, that story is particularly poignant. The museum holds significant naval history from Gallipoli to the Pacific, from Kokoda to the present day, and ANZAC Day brings special programming that brings these stories to life.
The main museum galleries are free to enter, covering everything from Indigenous sea voyaging to the First Fleet, convict transportation, naval warfare and modern maritime adventure. Outside on the water, you can walk the decks of historic vessels including HMAS Vampire, a retired Australian Navy destroyer, and HMAS Ovens, a submarine. These vessels carry an entry fee but the museum itself is free — making this an outstanding family day out.
Families can look forward to:
- Free entry to the main museum galleries — no ticket required
- ANZAC-themed naval exhibitions and interactive displays on ANZAC Day
- Walk the decks of real historic Navy ships moored at the wharf (small extra fee)
- Special ANZAC Day programming including talks and demonstrations
- Stunning Darling Harbour waterfront location — great for a post-visit stroll
- Located next to the Darling Harbour playground, Tumbalong Park and cafes
- Easy access from Town Hall or Darling Harbour ferry
