About this activity

Sydney Zoo opened in Bungarribee Park, Blacktown in 2019 — and in just a few years it has built a reputation as one of Australia's most impressive zoo experiences. Built from scratch on a purpose-designed site, every habitat is larger, more naturalistic and more animal-first than older facilities, which shows in the behaviour and wellbeing of the animals you see.

The headline acts are extraordinary. Giraffes pace through an open African savannah. Western lowland gorillas — one of the world's most endangered great apes — live in a vast forested enclosure. Hippos splash in a river habitat that lets you watch them underwater through floor-to-ceiling glass. Australian wildlife including koalas, wombats and wallabies round out a full day of discovery. With excellent parking, a good café and plenty of shaded seating, it is also one of the most practical family days out in Western Sydney.

Families can look forward to:

  • Giraffes roaming an open African savannah — feeding opportunities available on selected days
  • Western lowland gorillas in a spacious forested habitat — a genuinely rare encounter
  • Watch hippos swimming underwater through panoramic glass viewing panels
  • Koalas, wombats, wallabies and Australian reptiles in naturalistic bush settings
  • Over 100 species across African, Asian and Australian wildlife zones
  • Excellent café, picnic areas and plenty of shaded rest spots throughout the park
  • Located next to Eastern Creek with ample free parking — 40 minutes from Sydney CBD
